- Will work on porous surfaces but will require additional coats. So, we suggest that you apply a base layer of a similar colour non-metallic paint onto your porous surface first, ultimately making it none porous. Then you can paint your Original Gilding Enamel on top and acheive maximum lustre.

It has a semi-viscous flow with exceptional coverage that produces a vibrant, lustrous, tarnish-free finish. It is ideal for use on a variety of non-porous surfaces, including coated paper, hardwood, glass, metal, glazed ceramic, and plastics. For porous surfaces, GILD originals require a primer to maintain accurate color consistency and ensure the best results. Perfect for gilding frames, detailing furniture, figurines, scale models, signs, holiday crafts, costume detailing, and much more.
Application Instructions
- Stir very well before each use
- Apply with a brush, roller, or sponge
- Dries to touch in 30 minutes, ready for recoating in 1 hour
- Two coats are recommended on most surfaces
- Can be diluted up to 10%
- Wash brushes with warm water
Creating Tinted Varnishes
Guild Lane guilding enamels have incredible coverage, however for some projects you may prefer a more sheer finish. You have 2 options to acheive this -
1) You can add a little water to your guilding enamel to make it thinner and more translucent. We recommend that you add no more than 10% water.
2) You can mix our guilding enamels with the Guild Lane Clear Coat to create a custom metallic varnish. We recommend using satin or gloss as these will have the reflective quality required to enhance the metallic effect. Whereas, the matte clear coat would cancel out the metallic qualities, keeping the colour but dulling the sheen and sparkle.
