Coat Craquelure System - Base Coat and Top Coat

This high-quality Polyvine product produces a cracked varnish effect for a traditional aged finish.

Available in 100ml, 500ml and 1 litre

By using a simple two part (base coat and top coat) clear acrylic system, this varnish faithfully reproduces the regular crazed pattern associated with old porcelain glazes. Simply apply the base coat, then apply to top coat and watch the finest vintage crackle texture appear before your eyes.

Please note that you need to buy both the base coat and the top coat to create the effect.

Craquelure Highlighter

Our highlighter accentuates the craquelure effect with either white or dark brown for an aged finish.

Available in 50g

Simply apply the highlighter over the top of the crackle, the highlighter will sit in the cracks making them much more visible and giving either an aged or a limed effect depending on if you choose the light highlighter or the dark highlighter.

How It Works

Watch this video on our YouTube channel to see this product in action - Craquelure System Demonstration

Craquelure (French: craquelure; Italian: crettatura) is a fine pattern of dense cracking formed on the surface of materials. Historically it can be a result of drying, shock, aging, intentional patterning, or a combination of all four - Polyvine Craquelure System recreates this effortlessly!

  • Rustic look: The crackle effect can create a weathered, rustic look that’s reminiscent of the past. This effect can be especially effective when paired with modern accessories like plants and dark wood furnishings.
  • Shabby chic: The crackle effect can add a vintage edge to furniture and other surfaces.
